甘肃政法大学是甘肃省省属政法类普通本科院校，是全国最早建立的省属本科政法院校，是国家首批卓越法律人才教育培养基地院校、全国第二批高校实践育人创新创业教育基地、全国政法干警招录体制改革试点院校、中国政法大学对口支援高校、全国政法院校“立格联盟”成员。

学校前身是1956年创建的甘肃省政法干部学校，后几经撤并，多次易址，历经甘肃省行政干部学校、北湾五七干校、重建甘肃省政法干部培训学校几个阶段。1982年，甘肃省政法干部培训学校从靖远县北湾正式迁至学校现址。1984年，在甘肃省政法干部培训学校的基础上成立甘肃政法学院，开办普通高等教育。2004年，甘肃省国防科技工业学校并入甘肃政法学院。2025年6月，更名为甘肃政法大学。

截至2025年1月，学校建有3个校区，校园占地面积1066.59亩，校舍建筑面积39.77万平方米，教学科研行政用房面积16.85万平方米，教学科研仪器设备总值6910.12万元，纸质图书126.31万册、电子图书80.80万册。

Gansu University of Political Science and Law (GUST) is a provincial undergraduate institution of political science and law in Gansu Province. It is the earliest provincial undergraduate institution of political science and law in China. It is one of the first batch of national excellent legal talents education and training bases, the second batch of national colleges and universities practice education and innovation and entrepreneurship education bases, the national political and legal police recruitment system reform pilot colleges, the China University of Political Science and Law counterpart support universities, the National Political Science and Law Colleges and Universities "Legacy Alliance" member.

The school was originally founded in 1956 as the School for Political and Legal Cadres of Gansu Province. It has gone through several stages, including the School for Administrative Cadres of Gansu Province, the Beiwan Wuqi Cadre School and the reconstruction of the Training School for Political and Legal Cadres of Gansu Province. In 1982, Gansu Provincial Training School for Political and Legal Cadres was officially moved to its present location from Beiwan, Jingyuan County. In 1984, Gansu Institute of Politics and Law was established on the basis of the Gansu Provincial Training School for Political and Legal Cadres to provide general higher education. In 2004, Gansu University of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense was merged into Gansu University of Politics and Law. In June 2025, it was renamed Gansu University of Political Science and Law.

As of January 2025, the university has three campuses, covering an area of 1066.59 mu, including 397,700 square meters of building area and 168,500 square meters of administrative rooms for teaching and research. The total value of teaching and research equipment is 69,101,200 yuan, including 1.263,100 printed books and 808,000 electronic books.
